I’m actually proud of my country for once. The small country that refused to back down to the dictator in Turkey. Of course, the wayward Turks that live here that seem to have more sympathy towards their homeland are waving their red and white crescents about and are being a general nuisance.
Their glorious leader is calling the Dutch fascists, but I guess that guy should look in the mirror. How many judges, journalists, teachers and other dissidents have the Dutch thrown into jail? That’s right, none. How many people did the Dutch jail for being openly critical with the ruling government? None. How are the Dutch being fascist? Hmm?
Yeah, so the Dutch government disallowed the Turkish ministers a platform to campaign (oh, sorry, to “provide information”) for their upcoming referendum to turn Erdogan into a fully fledged authoritarian ruler (*cough* fascism *cough*). I wonder why any country should cooperate with attempts to further alienate and segregate parts of their own population. But clearly, the Dutch won’t have anything of it. Now there’s a Turkish despot (and a bunch of his cronies) throwing a temper-tantrum.
So, what about those patriotic Turks then? My personal recommendation is to void their Dutch passports, issue them a work visa, and stop their social benefits. If they want to be Turks above being Dutch, then by all means, let them be Turks.
